FAQs – Cloud Sleep

What is Cloud Sleep Silk?

We hold our silk products to the absolute highest standards, which is why through years of studies, research, and of course many nights of sleep, we've spun up Cloud Sleep Silk.  It is the pinnacle of comfort with the perfect balance of softness, shine, and durability.  We source only the most ultra-grade, 6A long fiber, pure mulberry silk, with a thickness of 22 momme (ideal for facial silk-to-skin contact) and always non-toxic dyes.

What's the difference between Cloud Sleep Silk and cotton or satin?

There are many benefits to choosing a Cloud Sleep Silk pillowcase over traditional cotton or a cheaper substitute like satin.

  • Cotton: Whereas Cloud Sleep Silk helps your face retain more moisture throughout the night, cotton can actually draw in moisture from your hair and face (including any overnight moisturizers or serums) which can lead to dry and irritated skin as well as damaged hair.  In addition, the loss of moisture contributes to wrinkles and  sleep creases which develop during sleep.  In fact, Cotton is often referred to by chemists as a "hydrophilic", in which it can absorb up to 25x its weight in water!
  • Satin: Satin is actually a type of weave and not a natural fiber like silk. Satin silk from polyester is a man-made fabric produced from polymers and is essentially a fabric created from oil with the same chemical composition as plastic bottles.  Pure mulberry silk is also naturally hypoallergenic and is resistant to mold, mildew, fungus and dust mites.

How do you wash the Cloud Sleep Pillowcase?

Ideally, you should hand wash and hang-dry your Cloud Sleep silk products to ensure maximum lifetime.  However, our 22-momme silk is durable and can be machine washed on gentle/delicate in cold water, but do not use a machine dryer and always hang-dry!  For more information, see our full Care Instructions.

What are the measurements for the Queen size?

Our Queen Cloud Sleep Pillowcase fits international standards and measures to be 20" x 30" (51cm x 76cm)

What is a momme, anyway?

Whereas you might be used to hearing about "thread count" as a means of identifying a high quality set of cotton bedsheets, momme weight is used to measure silk.

Momme (pronounced "moe mie") expresses the weight (in pounds) of a piece of material sized 45 inches by 100 yards. So if a silk is described as 22 momme, that means that 100 yards of the silk fabric weighs 22 pounds. After thousands of nights of sleep testing various mommes, we've set our bar of perfection high with the best combination of durability, softness, and comfort with Cloud Sleep Silk's 22 momme weight.

Beware of cheaper silks out there as well as imitation fabrics.  Cloud Sleep Silk measures our silk at the end of our production process and holds our product to the highest exacting and measuring standards to ensure your Cloud Sleep Pillowcases are made from only the highest quality, ultra-grade 22-momme mulberry silk.  Rest assured you are getting the best pillowcase on the market, without the department store mark ups.
